Today, I am so damn proud to announce that ROOM SERVICE, my first film as a writer and director, has been accepted to the 32nd Annual Atlantic Film Festival!

The film tells the story of a woman (Vanessa Walton Bone) confronting her husband’s mistress (Molly Dunsworth) in a motel room with unexpected results.

From day one, this was my goal, to play the AFF and show this film to the community my community in Halifax.

ROOM SERVICE will be playing Tuesday, September 18th, 7:00pm at Park Lane Cinemas as part of the CBC Atlantic Shorts Gala. Tickets available here: http://atlantic.bside.com/2012/films/cbcatlanticshortsgala0_atlantic2012_atlantic2012 The festival runs from September 13th to the 20th in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In the best interests of staying in “the know”, the official ROOM SERVICE Facebook page has been launched @ facebook.com/RoomServiceFilm so give us a Like there and a Follow @RoomServiceFilm on Twitter!

Again, a huge thank you to the official Thank You Club of folks who either donated funds, or helped us in any, many other ways. Your names will be in the credits. Pinky swear.

Also thank you to Samantha Wilson, Mauralea Austin, my crew Andrew Hicks, Ian Burns, Liam Higgins, Maria DeRozari, Lauren Bell and Egg Films who are currently assisting us in giving our film the final polish it needs to play this and many other fests.

If you see me in the next few weeks, there’s a big likelihood that I’ll have a huge, dumb grin plastered on my face.

ALSO: Josh MacDonald‘s GAME (GameShortFilm.com), which I have a part in, will be playing as part of Atlantic Shorts 3 on Saturday, September 15th at 9:20pm.

So honoured to be a part of this, hope to see you at the fest!

Once again, the time has come for me to reward those lovely people who helped me in my time of need, whilst raising funds for my directorial debut, ROOM SERVICE. I’ve come to call those fantastic people who’ve helped me, the “Thank You Club”.

Today’s offering for the Thank You Club: a very special sneak-peek of the film…

And for those of you who weren’t able to contribute funds (I still love you), but are still keen on the idea of my first film, please enjoy these stills featuring Vanessa Walton Bone and Molly Dunsworth below…

“The Top Dog” Online!

Hey people, great news, straight from the Disney Vault and available online for your viewing pleasure is Evan Elliot‘s The Top Dog, starring myself as Russell, a young man who has his comfortable dead-end life of couch surfing, home cooking and free laundry threatened by a new enemy.

This was the first film I was in that was screened in front of an audience, I remember chugging rum in the NSCAD bathroom before the screening to ease my nerves– I don’t remember much from that screening, but I believe people enjoyed it.

After that, it was screened at the Atlantic Film Festival, when, moments before it started, one of the AFF volunteers informed us that the disk had been scratched and was having some “complications”– what followed was essentially a slideshow of pixelated garbage and a headache. The original run time of 24 minutes had been dragged out close to 30 minutes. Brutal. However, the AFF offered to screen our short on another night, and that went swimmingly! I’m hoping your viewing experience is on the pleasurable side of things!

Make a sandwich and enjoy the damned movie!

3 Projects I Have to Tell You About…

The following is three projects that I have to tell you about because if I don’t, I’ll be lazy and I won’t do them. So here are three things that if aren’t done, you can express your heartfelt disappointment in me.

My fear of you is my motivation!

1. THE BEAT, A MUSICAL. First off, this isn’t in danger of me not doing it, I just really wanted to tell you about it!

Therefore: The buddy Cop film is currently being written by the caring hands of Matt Chisholm, Chris Fitzgerald (both of whom I met while working on Attention-Span TV) and myself. The wonderfully talented Kevin Fraser is going to be taking care of Director of Photography duties. Zac Efron has yet to get back to us though. What a dick.

We’re hoping to start shooting this Spring.thebeatlineup
2. ZOMG! for Bit of a Bully Productions. Now that I’ve had my fingers bitten off by a zombie in Colin MacDonald‘s Code 10:15 Civil Disturbance, I want to kick some zombie arse. ZOMG! will be my directorial follow up to Dinner Etiquette Correctness and will feature myself & Streets of Domination co-star John Han.

Shooting & loving in the Spring…

3. A FRINGE SHOW. This is the project that runs the most risk of being abandoned. Therefore, I put it on here. I have an idea for a show to be a part of the 19th Annual Atlantic Fringe Festival, but that’s all it is right now, I haven’t written a script yet.

I’ve never created a show, so if I do, it’ll definitely be a part of the Fringe festival. I was in a show as part of the Fringe fest a couple years back and the festival does a wonderful hodge-podge job of throwing together an awesome festival that supports all genres.
There! Three projects that you have permission to hassle me about! I look forward to your intimidation.

In other news, I’ve reviewed two more movies for CREAM OF THE CRAPGYMKATA (1985) & THE TOXIC AVENGER (1984). Watch the movies, join the group and chuck your reviews up on there!
