NOVEMBER ROUND-UP

bestof

The Coast, Halifax’s beloved weekly newspaper, 20 years going, recently released their Best Of Halifax Awards, and the people of this fine city voted for me as the “Best Male Film/TV Actor“! A huge honour for which I am all sorts bashful. Read the write-up below…

If you attended the Atlantic Film Festival this year, you may have noticed that Glen Matthews is a machine. He had a busy year, and AFF was evidence of that—six movies he worked on, including Saving Face (which he wrote, directed and starred in) and features Heartbeat and Lure put his face all over the silver screen that week. With all his spare time (har har), he also worked TV shows Sex and Violence and Seed and won a competition to appear in a Robert Rodriguez short. He does it all, but says perhaps it’s time for a breather. “I realized a few months ago that I think I’m ready to take a step back from acting,” says Matthews of what’s next for him. “I feel like I’m at a buffet, and I’m making the responsible decision to not eat any more. I’ll always act, because I love it, especially with friends, but I’m ready to find that next passion in my life.”

OCTOBER ROUND-UP

toll
October has been very, very good to me. Here’s a rundown of everything I’ve been up to (not included: pumpkin carving and gourd juggling)…

Early in the month, I starred in Scott Simpson‘s short film, THE TOLL (pictured above), alongside Emma Rosen, Pasha Ebrahimi and Mark Owen.

Two weeks ago, I shot an episode of CityTV’s SEED. Episode 6 of the 2nd season, to be exact. The 2nd season will begin airing in early 2014, until then head over to the CityTV website and catch up on da’ funnies:
http://www.citytv.com/toronto/shows/seed/posts/episodes/

Last week I started work on Andrea Dorfman‘s locally produced feature film, HEARTBEAT. “After her boyfriend leaves town, Justine, depressed and unfulfilled, picks up her neglected guitar which takes her on a journey that gets her heart beating for the first time in years.” Head over to the HEARTBEAT Facebook page to stay up to date: http://www.facebook.com/heartbeatthemovie

Last but damn well not least, principal photography on my next short film, SAVING FACE, is now complete and we’re headed into the editing suite (AKA my desk) very shortly! I just sent out the t-shirts, cards, and other IndieGoGo perks earlier today:

October, you’re my bro.

SAVING FACE!

sflogo03
The time is upon us! I am gearing up to shoot my second short film, SAVING FACE!

The film takes place in an alternate universe wherein everything is pro-wrestling, and it tells the story of a tag-team’s downfall when one of the members decides he’s going to become a bad guy.

We still have a couple of weeks before we find out how ROOM SERVICE fares in CBC’s SHORT FILM FACE OFF competition (our episode airs this Saturday, August 24th at 8:00pm Atlantic), so until then, I am still an incredibly impoverished filmmaker, thus, we’re really going to need your help to make this film! We’ve launched an IndieGoGo campaign (Saving Face: a short film by Glen Matthews).

We’re attempting to raise $2,000 to help alleviate our many, many costs (wrestling ring & arena rental, lighting, catering, insurance, etc). Don’t fret though, we’re not just asking for money without giving anything back!
_
  • Any $ Amount: You will be made a member of the “Thank You Club” where you will receive exclusive behind-the-scenes videos and updates.
  • $10: Digital download of the award-winning short film, “Room Service“.
  • $20: Digital download of “Room Service” with director’s commentary with Glen Matthews.
  • $50: “Saving Face” Collectors Cards, featuring the characters from the film.
  • $125: “Saving Face” T-Shirt, featuring the heroic tag-team featured in the film, Over-Time.
But that’s not all, as we move forward collectively, I will be sending videos to all of the contributors. At $1,000 raised I will post a video of a pro-wrestler scoop-slamming me. At $1,500, a video of a suplex, and at $2,000 a video of a power-bombAnd if we even go two cents above our goal, I will post a very embarrassing video of me as a backyard wrestler in high school. I do not want to do this.

Look at that photo. Do you understand how terrible a video of teenage-backyard-wrestling-Glen will be? Do you?
